The Berger Picard is also known as the Picardy Shepherd. It is the oldest French breed of dog. These were generally used to herd both sheep and cattle and vanished during World War I and World War II. As a result of that extinction, these dogs are very few in number. If the dog is rightly groomed in the beginning itself, then it can be very loyal and would be a good family pet.

Berger Picard Health and Diseases
The average age of Berger Picard is in between 13 to 14 years. Since the Berger Picards are relatively less in number, they are healthy dogs and not at a greater risk of catching diseases. However, they are at a risk of suffering from hereditary diseases as thus should get their hips and elbows x-rayed and eyes checked. Dogs suffering from hip dysplasia should not be bred.
